NASA AZ January 26 event at Phoenix International Raceway

January 27, 2008

After an entire week of rain being predicted for this race weekend, God presented a picture perfect day at the track.  The day started off in the low 30’s, but quickly warmed up for a near perfect racing conditions of 70 degrees.  It turned out to be an awesome weekend to unviel the new old school “Gulf Racing” colors on the NBoundZ Motorsports and Christian Ministries / TeamSRD Spec Z with the new wrap done by XSell Media.

Friday starts my story, I went out for my normal run and with about three miles to go, I rolled my ankle and suffered a major sprain.  By the end of the morning it was the size of a baseball.  I had to pick the car up from XSell Media and take it to the track by 3:30 for track set up.  At this point, I wasn’t even sure I would be able to push the clutch in with my ankle the way it felt.  I faked it through set up, I didn’t want to lead on I was injured in the fear of someone not wanting me to race the car.

I woke up Saturday stiff, but I was going to give driving a shot.  That was the last time I even thought about my ankle,  I think I was running on answered prayer and an increased production of adrenaline all day long.  Both practice sessions went well in the morning and it was very fun showing off the new look that XSell Media had done with the car. My fellow racers were also very sympathetic for the loss of my Dad, but once again, we were able to use my dad’s faith in Christ to plant more seeds in the hearts of racers, drivers and motorsport enthusiasts.

I got to grid first for qualifying, so I had open track the entire 10 minutes I was out there.  I put down my best time so far at P.I.R. with a 1:11:06.  I would start 2nd, I missed poll by less than 2 tenths of a second to Paul Bloomberg.  Paul has been driving great and so has Sarah Catteneo, I would have to watch Sarah closely she would qualify third and be right behind Paul at the start with me on Paul’s outside door.

The race was awesome, it was the first time I had raced with our group split into the “small bore” group and it was very different being one of the fast cars on the track, normally I am a mid pack car when we all race together.  I had a decent start, but Sarah Catteneo in her Mini Cooper made a great move on me in turn two and got by me.  I was hoping either Paul or Sarah would make a mistake due to the  close door to door racing between the three of us during the race, but my hopes of that would be dashed.  After several attempts, I couldn’t get by Sarah or Paul and once we started going through lapped traffic, the gap started to increase between Sarah and I.  Paul won the overall race and the PTB class and Sarah took second in race with a PTC victory for her.  I placed third overall in the race and second in PTB.  Praise God for a safe race and for a having a wonderful time.  Paul, Sarah, Danny and I had a wonderful, light conversation after the race on how exciting it is to race with each other, we are all very close in our cars.  I think I am fortunate to have a very strong car, it makes up for my inadequecies in the car.

This was also the first time we were using radios during the race, thanks to Terry Denton of TeamSRD.  Terry was kind enough to install all of the radio wiring in the car and installed a mic in my helmet.  Joe Baugh did a wonderful job as the chief chief once again and did a phenomenal job of spotting for me during the race.  It is always good to hear a familiar voice when your out there in the heat of battle.

Terry Denton was also out there in his new “slightly used” Z06 TeamSRD Corvette.  Chet Mann from SRD worked through some issues during the day concerning the computer after installing the kill switch, but Terry still ran a 1:15 for his first time out in the car.  As usual, TeamSRD made the expierence very enjoyable and professional.

It was a great day and we rejoiced in the Lord’s grace to be able to go out and enjoy this wonderful sport of motorsports.  On Sunday, we cleaned the car up and took it to F1 Race Factory Indoor Kart track in Phoenix, AZ.  Make sure you go and check out the car and jump in a kart to test your personal driving skills.  Hope to see you at the track.

New page - Dad’s plan

January 23, 2008

If this is your first time on our website or if you visit frequently, I hope this finds you well.  Have you figured it out yet?  We are more about Jesus Christ than motorsports, but you would have to exam our hearts to really figure that out!

What will people think of you when you die?  What will you leave for the people left behind on this earth?  Do you know what will happen to you when you die? Is your death a one part or a two part story?

This new page is a true story about the recent passing of my earthy father, Gary Peck. My Dad was an awesome man, he wasn’t perfect, but to God, he is seen blameless.   I hope you read it and meditate on what it says and find Hope in my Dad’s last testimony.

Dad’s race

January 12, 2008

I want to thank everyone for the prayers for my Dad and our family, they were felt. As many of you know, my Dad was admitted into MICU at Maricopa Medical Center last Friday with multiple organ failure due to sepsis from a nasty little bug called C. Diff. Dad was up and down all week, he had some bad days and some good days where it looked like he might recover and also looked promising he might go home. Thursday afternoon when we came to visit and the doctors were gathered around, Dad was alert and they were talking about his miraculous recovery. I was able to tell Dad how much his family loved him and that many people were praying for him. I also promised him if he got better and went home, we would never come back to the hospital. That very night, Dad went home, not to Prescott, but to be in Glory forever more. God had let us intervene enough and He created a situation to free my Dad of all pain and suffering forever; Dad had a catastrophic brain aneurism. God had fulfilled His promise, not mine. My brother flew in immediately from Las Vegas; he arrived and was able to see Dad in a very peaceful state while his physical body continued to live (Lyndon had drove out Saturday and stayed until Monday too).
My oldest sister from Nashville and my Dad’s little brother made arrangements and flew in. During their transit here, we had Dad transferred to Hospice of the Valley near my house. It was a very peaceful and good environment for family to say their final good byes.

Dad and Mom’s pastor from Prescott Valley just happened to be camping 5 miles away from the hospice when we transferred Dad, so they immediately came to see Dad when he arrived. (The scriptures say that God goes before and after us) It was time for me to go the airport and Dad peacefully passed away when I was at the airport picking my sister and uncle up. My Dad was in the presence of the Lord and could no longer stay, why would he? I can only imagine how excited Dad was when Jesus said to him, “Welcome Gary, my good and faithful servant”.

Dad was finally Home in Heaven where he longed to be and by the blood of Jesus, it was possible to be seen righteous by God. My Dad ran the race, but Jesus won it for him 2000 years ago.

Today we will be visiting my Aunt Margaret’s burial spot in Chandler and then we will be heading to Prescott Valley for the viewing and the memorial service. (If you want to attend on Sunday, please let me know and I will get you the details) We plan on having a grave side service in Paducah, Kentucky on January 26 or February 9th, we are still deciding. My Mom’s request is to have Dad’s favorite song “Amazing Grace” played on the bag pipes at the service, the song rings out Dad story.

“Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch like me….

I once was lost but now am found,

Was blind, but now, I see.

T’was Grace that taught…

my heart to fear.

And Grace, my fears relieved.

How precious did that Grace appear…

the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares…

we have already come.

T’was Grace that brought us safe thus far…

and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me…

His word my hope secures.

He will my shield and portion be…

as long as life endures.

When we’ve been here ten thousand years…

bright shining as the sun.

We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise…

then when we’ve first begun.

“Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch like me….

I once was lost but now am found,

Was blind, but now, I see.

We were blessed to have such a wonderful Dad, we are glad he is finally home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. Please rejoice with our family and be glad in the hope of Jesus.

Love,

Clayton

2008 NASA AZ January 5th and 6th Event

January 8, 2008

I missed the 2008 season opener of NASA AZ due to my Dad being admitted to the ICU at Maricopa County Medical Center due to complications from his last lobectomy.  We are praying for God’s will to be done in Dad’s life and hope to be at the next event, but there is a good possibility we may not make the next event either.  We will be at the track ASAP, but at this point, family is a priority.  We hope to see everyone soon.

There was a serious accident on January 5, please pray for the driver’s quick and full recovery.

Brady Dohrmann’s race car FOR SALE

January 2, 2008

Up for sale is my ‘98 BMW 323is club racer car. This car started life as a street 323is a little over a year ago, and finished its build about six months ago. The car has only five track weekends since completion. The car was about 75% built by a local shop in Phoenix, when the owner ran into problems (not related to the car) and had to sell the car. I bought the car and finished it… I think most of us know the story.

Right now as it sits, it makes 237hp on the DynoJet and weighs in at 2450lbs. I run the car in NASA Performance Touring Class A (PTA), where it sits with 2 points remaining before moving into ST2. Power to weight with me is 11.1:1, so it’s maxed out for GTS3 as well. I have never run it with BMWCCA, but it’s not legal for IP anymore due to the rear fenders being flared. As it sits it would make a good C-Mod car. With slicks and more power, it could definitely be competitive.

I have only run it at one track, Phoenix International Raceway. Two weeks ago I ran a 1:07.2 in qualifying, on DOT tires, and I am by no means a pro driver! For reference, when BMWCCA was in town a few months ago, I-Prepared qualified with a high 1:08 lap (best IP lap during the race was a 1:08.. Grand Am GS pole position last year was a 1:07.5, with Darren Law driving a Brumos Porsche 997. So you can see the potential this car has.

There may be a few details I missed, but hopefully I covered all the important things. I have every receipt for this car in a 3-ring binder. Not including labor costs, about $40,000 was spent building this car. Original nuts and bolts were replaced, many of the engine sensors were replaced prior to install, the engine has several new internal parts (oil pump I believe), a new crank pulley etc..

The body has the usual scratches, chips and scuffs that are normally associated with a track car, but the car was repainted a year ago in yellow (originally it was black).

I could go on forever about this car. It’s extremely fast, very reliable (it’s a BMW afterall), sounds good, handles well and is competitive in many different classes. I believe it’s a national winning car in either NASA PTA or GTS3 with a good driver. Nothing is wrong with the car - I just had a nice weekend with it over Thanksgiving - I’m just interested in building something else, so this has to go in order for that to happen.

Asking $20,000 obo. You’ll never find a car this fast, competitive and reliable for this price.

Pictures of the interior, engine etc are available and will gladly email them out upon request. Please contact me via email with any questions, picture requests, offers etc. Email is the best way to contact me.
